Privacy in the information society

The increasing power and availability of information technology does not only allow people to communicate more efficiently but also helps authorities to observe them. Privacy is often considered secondary in favour of security, but this is an error in reasoning. In this presentation it will be shown that privacy is more than an obstacle in criminal proceedings. As the informational right of self-determination is an essential foundation pillar of democracy, possibilities of actively ensuring one's online privacy are also introduced.
