Prof. Charles Harker

Keynote Speech

This lecture will discuss the the expression of socio-cultural concerns through architecture. Three examples will be shown. The first is a "futurist" proposal for a UN Conference center. This center is planned to provide a forum for third world and East/West communication for the resolution of pollution, hunger, conflict resolution and other world problems. The second attempts to integrate intercultural form with nature. The third will use "collective memory" as a means of establishing a subliminal link that transcends language. These projects have been internationally published and have been included in exhibitions in the Pompidou Center in Paris, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.Following the lecture, Professor Harker will include commentary on his international teaching experiences in Italy, Turkey and Germany.
